The Roar
by carolynholm
Dear Mom,
The kittens think they own the house now.
XOXO Poppy
Dear Poppy,
I can’t imagine our house without them!
Love, Carolyn
Dear Mom,
Charlie is so much fun to play with! But Elsa won’t wrestle with me like he does.
XOXO Poppy
Dear Poppy,
She will. She’s still building her confidence.
Love, Carolyn
Dear Mom,
She’s nervous about Winston.
XOXO Poppy
Dear Poppy,
I have noticed that sometimes Winston doesn’t seem to know which one he is chasing. He’ll run up to Charlie, who just sits there looking skeptical instead of running away like Elsa. Winston probably makes that mistake because his vision isn’t very good, so he mainly sees their color, and they are both gray tweed with white accessories.
Love, Carolyn
Dear Mom,
You like to say they have white shoes!
XOXO Poppy
Dear Poppy,
I do indeed! Their front paws tell you everything you need to know about them. Charlie has cute white sneakers in front, and Elsa has white GoGo Boots!
Love, Carolyn

Dear Mom,
What does that say about them?
XOXO Poppy
Dear Poppy,
You’re a dog, shoe nuance would probably escape you.
Love, Carolyn
Dear Mom,
I know ALL about shoes!!!! I know when you are putting on garden shoes, or going-for-a-walk shoes, and I get so excited! But I don’t bother to get excited for dress-up shoes, because you don’t take me out to your special occasions.
XOXO Poppy
Dear Poppy,
You are very wise, sweetie! You do know about shoes. Well, Charlie is a casual guy who is looking to have a good time, so sneakers say that perfectly. And Elsa is an elegant, stylish sort of girl, with a lot of spirit, so white GoGo Boots say it all about her.
Love, Carolyn
Dear Mom,
She is definitely spirited. She screams a lot, and she has a really mean growl. How does such a big sound come out of such a dainty little cat?????
XOXO Poppy
Dear Poppy,
I don’t know where that booming baritone growl comes from. When she’s tussling with Charlie or being chased by Winston, she roars!
Love, Carolyn
Dear Mom,
That’s like you!!!!!
XOXO Poppy
Poppy,
Like me?
Love, Carolyn
Dear Mom,
Like you and your friend, when you two roared at the bear that tried to come into the cabin. No one would expect two nice ladies to have such fierce roars.
XOXO Poppy
Dear Poppy,
And I don’t know where that came from. I’ve never roared before. Neither had she. But that day at the cabin, when that bear started crawling through the kitchen window, that sound just came out of us.
Love, Carolyn
Dear Mom,
You two made a HORRIFYING sound! And it worked! It scared that bear away!
XOXO Poppy
Dear Poppy,
After the bear left, I realized that you hadn’t even barked.
Love, Carolyn
Dear Mom,
I was ready to back you up, but I don’t have the kind of sound that would scare a bear. I don’t have a scary baritone growl like you and Elsa have.
XOXO Poppy
