Hey Mom,
You gave Poppy some salmon skin!
Charlie

Dear Charlie,
Yes, I slipped her a little treat while I was making dinner. I should never have started doing that, because she won’t leave me alone when she smells me preparing salmon. She loves the skin.
Love, Carolyn

Dear Mom,
I want some salmon skin.
Charlie

Dear Charlie,
We’ll see. Maybe.
Love, Carolyn

Mom,
Cats love salmon too!
Charlie

Dear Charlie,
I know you do. That’s why I get you the cat food with salmon in it.
Love, Carolyn

Hey Mom,
We eat the same food as you do!!!!!! That’s so exciting!
Charlie

Dear Charlie,
Well, in a sense. We all have very different diets, but there’s some overlap.
Love, Carolyn

Mom,
Diets? Poppy doesn’t have a diet. She eats EVERYTHING.
Charlie

Dear Charlie,
She’s a dog. Dogs are basically omnivores.
Love, Carolyn

Mom,
What does that mean?
Charlie

Dear Charlie,
It means dogs will eat pretty much anything.
Love, Carolyn

Hey Mom,
That’s what I said!!! She even eats cat poop.
Charlie

Dear Charlie,
No, buddy, we don’t let her do that.
Love, Carolyn

Hey Mom,
Cats don’t go around trying to eat poop. Thank heavens we’re not omnivores.
Charlie

Dear Charlie
Cats are definitely carnivores. Though I lived with a cat once who liked cantaloupe.
Love, Carolyn

Hey Mom,
I like cherries!!!!!
Charlie

Dear Charlie,
No, you just like to play with cherries. Steal them out of a bowl, roll them around on the floor, and then lose them under the cabinet.
Love, Carolyn

Dear Mom,
So. Cats are carnivores. Dogs are omnivores. What are humans?
Charlie

Dear Charlie,
It depends. Some are omnivores and eat anything. Some, like me, don’t eat meat, and that’s called vegetarian. Except I eat fish, so I’m a branch of that, called pescatarian. And some folks are vegan, which means they eat only plant based food.
Love, Carolyn

Mom,
Too many fancy names! The important thing is we’re a fishy family. I love that we all eat the same thing!!!!
Charlie

Dear Charlie,
You never know where you’re going to find solidarity.
Love, Carolyn
