One Year!

by carolynholm

Dear Charlie,
I can’t believe you and Elsa are One Year Old now!!!
Love, Carolyn

Mom,
Are we adults?
Charlie

Dear Charlie,
Not by a long shot, buddy.
Love, Carolyn

Mom,
Is that sarcasm?
Charlie

Dear Charlie,
Possibly.
Love, Carolyn

Mom,
Are we still kittens?
Love, Charlie

Dear Charlie,
I would say you two are adolescents.
Love, Carolyn

Hey Mom,
Is Winston an adolescent too?
Charlie

Dear Charlie,
He acts like it, doesn’t he! But he’s an adult. He’s coming up on six years old.
Love, Carolyn

Mom,
OMG Winston is OLD! No wonder he forgets stuff when we’re playing.
Charlie

Dear Charlie,
He’s not old, sweetie. He’s still a young dude. He just forgets stuff because he loses focus and wanders off.
Love, Carolyn

Hey Mom,
Well, ok. But Poppy is old.
Charlie

Dear Charlie,
You’re right about that. She’s twelve. She’s got herself a white face now, and poor girl, she’s getting stiff in the joints.
Love, Carolyn

Hey Mom,
Enough about Poppy, are we going to have a birthday party for me and Elsa?
Charlie

Dear Charlie,
Every day is a party with you kids.
Love, Carolyn

Mom,
I mean with singing, treats, and a birthday candle?
Charlie

Dear Charlie,
Well, sorry buddy, not with a candle. I learned that the hard way. Years ago our sweet cat Alice had a birthday, and we celebrated with a can of tuna with a birthday candle in it. The idea was to light the candle, take a quick picture of Alice with her treat, and then remove the candle so she could enjoy the tuna.  But she didn’t wait. I felt like an idiot for thinking that was a good idea.
Love, Carolyn

Mom,
What happened?
Charlie

Dear Charlie,
She plunged in and singed her whiskers.
Love, Carolyn

Mom,
Ok. Let’s skip the candle. But a can of tuna sounds like a TERRIFIC idea!!!!!!!!
Charlie
