Holiday Decor

by carolynholm

Hey Mom,
What’s all this new stuff in the house???????  Why was this little tree on the dining table?
Charlie

Dear Charlie,
Maybe we’ll make that one yours. You can play with that little tree if you leave the big one alone.
Love, Carolyn

Hey Mom,
You mean the big tree growing in the living room?????!!!!!
Charlie

Dear Charlie,
That’s the one. This is your first Christmas, sweetie, so we will have to establish some rules about not messing with everything. These are holiday decorations and they are supposed to stay put. I can only imagine what you could do to that tree if you tried to scale it, so we’ll have to play this by ear.
Love, Carolyn

Mom,
The big tree is really interesting but I don’t care for the way it tastes.
Charlie

Dear Charlie,
Well, that’s good. Hopefully it’s going to remain upright. I’m holding off on decorating it. I want to give you time to get used to it before I put shiny balls on it.
Love, Carolyn

Mom,
Shiny balls? I LOVE shiny balls!
Charlie

Dear Charlie,
That’s why I’m reconsidering how I decorate this year.

Mom,
And there are ribbons on the dining table! And lots of paper that rustles!!!!!
Charlie

Dear Charlie,
That’s where I’m doing my gift wrapping. Somehow we will get through this.
Love, Carolyn

Hey Mom,
I love the ribbons!!!
Charlie

Dear Charlie,
I noticed that. They are everywhere now. Part of your interior decorating effort.
Love, Carolyn

Mom,
My what??????
Charlie

Dear Charlie,
I like to tell my friends that you are my new interior decorator. Yesterday Poppy and I walked in the door from our walk to find water all over the kitchen table and a puddle on the floor. Apparently a new concept in decorating.
Love, Carolyn

Hey Mom,
The vase on the table fell over when I pulled everything out of it.
Charlie

Dear Charlie,
Those were my garden’s very last roses of the season. They just don’t have the same effect lying bruised on the floor.
Love, Carolyn

Mom,
They bounced when I batted them!
Charlie

Dear Charlie,
Clearly a lot of fun. And then there are the rugs.
Love, Carolyn

Mom,
I LOVE RUGS!!!!!
Charlie

Dear Charlie,
No kidding. I don’t know how a relatively small animal like you can flip a rug over and slide it all the way across the floor. I never know what I’m going to come home to. This morning’s rug work was spectacular.
Love, Carolyn

Mom,
You have to get going REALLY REALLY FAST and then pounce on it. But I didn’t do that all by myself. Winston and I did it together. And then Poppy got all excited and started barking like crazy. Elsa just hid.
Charlie

Dear Charlie,
Sorry I missed that. It must have been quite a scene.
Love, Carolyn

Hey Mom,
Decorating is SO MUCH FUN!!!
Charlie

Dear Charlie,
You are lucky you are so sweet and cute.
Love, Carolyn

Mom,
I am?
Charlie

Dear Charlie,
If you weren’t, no one would put up with your wild antics.
Love, Carolyn
