Family Ties

Dear Mom,
Our house has been full of visitors!!!
XOXO Poppy

Dear Poppy,
Has it been too much? We’ve had a lot going on over the holidays.
Love, Carolyn

Dear Mom,
It’s exciting!
XOXO Poppy

Dear Poppy,
I think you like having another dog around.
Love, Carolyn

Dear Mom,
Except when he looks at my food.
XOXO Poppy

Dear Poppy,
Ok, yesterday you over-reacted on that one.
Love, Carolyn

Dear Mom,
Charlie looks at my food too.
XOXO Poppy

Dear Poppy,
And everyone walks past it many times a day. You need to calm down about that. There’s no need to bark and lunge at them, just for walking by your bowl. Charlie is used to your nonsense, and Winston thinks you’re nuts, but little Musso finds it quite alarming.
Love, Carolyn

Dear Mom,
Musso shouldn’t look at my food.
XOXO Poppy

Dear Poppy,
He isn’t eating it, sweetie. And he’s our guest. A very small one at that. He weighs less than Winston!
Love, Carolyn

Dear Mom,
He doesn’t know how to play with the cats.
XOXO Poppy

Dear Poppy,
He normally isn’t around cats. But he’s very respectful. He doesn’t bark at them any more. I like that he just watches them intently.
Love, Carolyn

Dear Mom,
He should try wrestling with Charlie. It’s SO MUCH FUN!!!!!
XOXO Poppy

Dear Poppy,
I don’t think he’d consider that a very good idea. But who knows, one day we might get to that point. In the meantime, maybe ease off on Musso when he walks past your dish.
Love, Carolyn

Dear Mom,
He doesn’t eat my food because I yell at him when he does.
XOXO Poppy

Dear Poppy,
Ok, fair enough. You’ve set a very clear boundary. But remember, he’s a member of our pack, and we don’t want you disturbing family peace.
Love, Carolyn

Dear Mom,
You call that peace? We were a noisy family on Christmas Eve. I’m so glad it’s quieter today!
XOXO Poppy

Dear Poppy,
I can understand that. The holiday is a lot of fun for us humans, but maybe less so for dogs. And the cats just stay in the bedroom and roll their eyes.
Love, Carolyn

Dear Mom,
But Charlie was watching the party!
XOXO Poppy

Dear Poppy,
You’re so right! I saw him peering at us from down the hall.
Love, Carolyn

Dear Mom,
Then when everyone went to bed, he came out to play.
XOXO Poppy

Dear Poppy,
He had a wild time after our Christmas Eve festivities! When we unwrapped our gifts, we had stuffed the crumpled giftwrap papers into a paper bag. In the morning I found all that paper scattered around the living room. Evidently Charlie had a wonderful time.
Love, Carolyn

Dear Mom,
That cat knows how to have fun.
XOXO Poppy
